World War I began in 1914 after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and lasted until 1918. During the conflict, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire which were known as he central powers fought against Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Japan and the United States know as the allied powers. The new military technologies and the trench warfare, World War I saw so much carnage and destruction. When the war became to come to an end and the Allied Powers claimed victory, over 16 million people were dead. World War I probably had many consequences. It had more than any other war. From a political stand point it resulted in the downfall of four monarchies which was Russia in 1917, Austria-Hungary and Germany in 1918, and in Turkey in 1922. It contributed to the Bolshevik rise to power in Russia in 1917 and the triumph of fascism in Italy in 1922. It started colonial revolts in the Middle East and in Southeast Asia.World war 1 really messed up the economy especially the European economies. When that happen it allowed the United States to become the world's leading creditor and industrial power. The war also brought many social problems that wasn’t needed, including the mass murder of Armenians in Turkey and an influenza epidemic that killed over 25 million people worldwide. It got way out of hand nothing anybody seen coming. No one thought a war like world war 1 could happen it caught everyone off guard. It really messed up both the people who won and who lost. In a single day at the Battle of the Somme in 1916, more than 100,000 British troops plodded across no-man's land into steady machine gunfire. The German trenches a few yards away, Some 60,000 soldiers were killed or wounded. At the end of the battle, 419,654 British men were killed, missing, or wounded.

Week 5 reflection
As I read through this week we are speaking on the modern day. Also the way we’re thinking in the US. This which is called the Progressive Era. This Era was a period of wide range of economic , political, social , and moral reform. This happen around the United States it went from the 1890s to the 1920s. The reason the Progressive era came about is to fix the problems the came with industrialization, urbanization, immigration, and political corruption. This is where the phrase “Uncle Sam” was created. They began adding income tax and tariff tax into America. This trend started in Texas around the 1800s. What’s crazy is ever since then taxes have been hurting many Americans. Also another thing that happen was the struggle the women had to go through. They had to fight everyday for their equality. When the American revolution came about it raised many womens expectation. This is when women start to demand that they got treat fairly. The women’s academics started to flourish. In the early 1900’s American women had the highest female literacy rate in the world. It was crazy because men thought it wasn’t possible but the women had something to prove. Then the white males started to deny the vote for free blacks and also in New Jersey where women briefly won the right after the revolution. The women was trying to change the way they was looked at and want to be treated just like the men because they felt like they was just as equal and had a voice and wanted to speak it.it was a lot of hard work but it was done the women got what they wanted and it was all worth. I feel as if it helped the United States in the long run allowing women to do the things men did the country runs smoother.

Week 4
During the year of 1879, there was an army officer by the name of Richard H. Pratt. Officer Pratt opened a boarding school for The kids that are Indian. The boarding school was located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. His plan was to use education to take American culture to another level to make it mainstream in other words. That year, 50 Cheyenne, Kiowa, and Pawnee arrived at his school. He began to cut their hair. the kids were required to speak English.they was not able to show or do anything that related to their culture. Things such as Indian clothing, dancing, or religious ceremonies. Pratt's wanted to "kill the Indian and save the man." What’s crazy to me is that it continued in the 19th century, reformers called for the government to support their decision so that schools would teach Indian children "the white man's way of life,". That’s so wrong how they take people and tried to make them one of them basically remaking them. Also they wanted end corruption on Indian reservations, and their tribal organizations. The government thought on it and used some of their ideas. Then the reformers took away corruption in the Indian Bureau, which had been set up in 1824 to provide assistance to Indians. In 1869, one member of the House of Representatives said, "No branch of the federal government is so spotted with fraud, so tainted with corruption...as this Indian Bureau." To end corruption, Congress established the Board of Indian Commissioners in 1869. I feel so bad for them because nobody should have to grow through that. Them being changed and not being able to live there life they want and being able to be themselves. It was evil . At the end of the 19th century so much of this has happen that the Indian population decreased by a lot. They broke up tribes they changed everything you wouldn’t even know they was Indian anymore.

Week 3 Reflection: Industrial Capitalism
I found it interesting that the Pullman strike of 1894 is assumed significant because it promotes the use of railroads as a better mode of transportation. Which was also a company called the Pullman company that sold mainly railroad cars. It excluded minority groups from joining the union. Later the Pullman railroad company laid off workers and cut their wages, the American railway lead a national strike that shit down the country’s railroad systems. When the video talked about what happened in the U.S. history the railroad traffic was distributed in the Midwest in the United States. The homestead strike is well known to be an industrial lockout and strike which began on July 1892, culminating in a battle between strikers and private security agents on July 6, 1892. Which was. Related by Andrew Carnegie and the American industrialist Henry Clay Frick the strike beakers who had been hired and worked for the company. Also talks about how the strike lost its momentum and ended on November 20, 1892 with the amalgamated association virtually destroyed, Carnegie steel moved quickly to institute longer hours and lower wages. The homestead strike showed that strikes could become violent, that military could call for supporters. The myth it began in the 19th century which is when it became industrialize. Between the years of 1890 and 1910 typewriter, hand-held cameras, telephones, electricity and more came about . Then became a new way of producing goods. This is called Taylorism it made skilled workers not needed. Also made hiring easier and labor strike hard labor strikes difficult. The expansion of the railroads did great things for America. It created a lot of jobs for people. They were able to transports goods at a high amount which did good for companies. Many think that the United States became industrialized by the free market, they are mistaken. They did not become an industrialized nation because of the “free market.” The government was very involved. This week was basically about them trying to gain power. Trying to be able to control everything and have all the money. That way they’ll be able to do whatever they wanted. The crazy thing is money helped the country out a lot. It was able to create business that way people had more jobs. It also helped with education so people would be able to learn. Then when it came to neighborhoods making them better for people that lived in bad environments and didn’t have much. That’s what I got from this week it was a bad thing but also a good thing.
